How do I set the starting view and customer location on the new look?

The General tab of the new look: the opening position of the map, finding the customer when the map loads (with or without the browser asking), the Ctrl or two-finger zoom rule, and the distance and opening hours formats.

This article is about the new look. What customers see the moment the map loads, and how the map treats their own position, lives in Settings → General.

Step 1: Choose the opening position

Starting view has two options:

  • Fit all locations: the map opens zoomed so that every location is in view.

  • Focus one area: the map opens on the place and zoom you choose. Move and zoom the small map on the card to set the opening view.

The classic Max map zoom and Location click zoom settings have no effect on the new look; the map manages zoom itself.

Step 2: Decide how to find the customer

Customer location has three switches:

  • Locate the customer automatically: when the map loads, the browser asks the customer for permission, then the map centers on them and sorts the list by distance. If they say no, the map uses an approximate location from their IP address instead.

  • Locate without asking: works only while the first switch is on. The browser never asks; the map uses an approximate location from the customer's IP address, usually their city. A customer who has already allowed location for your store gets their exact position.

  • Mark the customer's position: a dot on the map, in the Shopper's dot colour from Design. It shows only when the customer shares their exact location, never for an approximate one.

Customers can also locate themselves with the Find me button next to the search box. That button still asks the browser for their exact location, even with Locate without asking on.

Step 3: Keep customers out of a zoom trap

Map interaction has one switch, Require Ctrl or two fingers to zoom. With it on, scrolling over the map scrolls the page instead of zooming, so customers do not get stuck in the map.

Step 4: Set the formats

Formats sets the Distance unit, Kilometers or Miles, and the Opening hours format, 24-hour or 12-hour (AM/PM).
