Use a Google Maps API key only when you want the Google map provider in Store Locator. Progus, OpenStreetMap, and Apple providers can be used without a Google key.
Before you start
Create the key in a Google Cloud project with billing enabled. Without billing, Google can block the map with a billing error.
Step 1: Create the key in Google
Open the Google Maps API key setup page and create a standard API key in your Google Cloud project.
Step 2: Allow the map API
Add the Maps JavaScript API to that key.
Step 3: Open map styles
In Store Locator, open Settings -> Appearance.
Step 4: Choose Google
Select the Google tab in Map style.
Step 5: Paste the key
Paste the key into Google API Key.
Step 6: Apply the style
Click Use on the Google style you want. The app checks that the Google key is present and in the expected format before it saves the style.
If the key is rejected
If the app shows Invalid API key format, the pasted key does not match the expected Google key pattern after leading and trailing spaces are ignored.
What to do next
Map still does not load? Use Map is not working correctly with my Google API Key.
Seeing BillingNotEnabledMapError? Use How to fix Google Maps Error: BillingNotEnabledMapError.
Want to change the style later? Use Customizing map style.
Stuck on any of this? Open the chat in the bottom right corner of the app and we will help you set it up.
